Dear Sir or Madam,

In light of the current armed conflict in Europe, we are particularly concerned about the many colleagues we know personally in Ukraine.
"Ukraine has a right to peace!" says the Board of Trustees of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade and the Börsenverein Group, to which Frankfurter Buchmesse belongs, and demands an end to the deliberate destruction of peace and freedom in Europe.

Dear colleagues who are directly threatened in this conflict, our thoughts are with you.

Best wishes to all readers

Fellowship and grant programmes: apply now!

Invitation to Frankfurt: international booksellers, young professionals

That's what fairs are for and that's what we do with our fellowship and grant programmes: networking, further education, international business initiation. For example, the new Frankfurt International Booksellers programme takes place every two years as a face-to-face event around Frankfurter Buchmesse in October. The participation of the 15 booksellers, who come from all over the world, is completely free, including all travel and accommodation costs and taking part in the programme itself. They are financed with the support of the Federal Foreign Office. The application deadline for 2022 is 30 April.
Young booksellers from Germany, France and Switzerland are already expected in June for the Paris-Frankfurt Fellowship. The application deadline for this intercultural training programme is 15 March.

Bologna: “Translation in an Intercultural Context”

On Monday, 21 March, we invite you into the Translators Café at Bologna Childrens’s Book Fair to talk about translating children's books into different cultures. Various experts will show that it is not only about processing the text into another language, but also transferring the level of illustration, which is an additional challenge. There, the different realities of children's lives, such as environment, skin colour and religion, play a big role. The event takes place as part of the European Project Aldus up.

Listening to the future?

Is listening to an audio book another form of reading? Or are audio books merely a rather less complex form of entertainment? The meanings attributed to the reception of the spoken word from a scientific point of view are the subject of a specialist article that has now appeared on http://www.aldusnet.eu/, the website of the European Bookfairs' Network. It summarises what was discussed at the online conference "Listening to the Future: Book and Audio" during the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2021. The article also looks at the audio value chain and how it differs from the print sector.

Spain at Books at Berlinale

Corruption, kitsch and a lost paradise

On 14 February 2022, the event "Books at Berlinale" took place. Ten titles were presented that are particularly suitable for literary film adaptations. This year's Guest of Honour, Spain, has been represented in the book selection by Jane Pilgrem from Editorial Anagrama. She pitched the novel "Spanish Beauty" by Esther García Llovet to the audience. We spoke with the author about her current novel and about the possible film adaptation.
