The global audiobook market has experienced an astonishing growth over the past 15 years. At Frankfurt, the book fair’s audio area almost doubled in size in 2024 compared to 2023. German audiobook publisher Hörbuch Hamburg has just been nominated for the German Audiobook Awards 2025 with several titles. We talked to CEO Colin Hauer about what makes a good audiobook, upcoming audio trends and the use of AI.

Translation fundings by the bookfair's Guests of Honour
|
A translation funding programme will once again be announced for this year as part of the Philippines' Guest of Honour appearance at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025. Applications can be submitted from 1 April to 30 May. The deadline for funding for the publication of Czech literature in translation (Guest of Honour 2026) is 15 May.

The Ukrainian Book Institute awards grants for translations of Ukrainian literary works into other languages. The call is open to submissions from abroad as well as from Ukraine. Application deadline is 10 February.

AI and rights business in Kazakhstan
|
After more than two decades, Frankfurter Buchmesse once again organised a publishing workshop in Kazakhstan with the support of the Federal Foreign Office. German publishing professionals shared their expertise and exchanged ideas with local colleagues. Both the mountain backdrop of Almaty and the professional implementation by the partners and the supporting programme were overwhelming.

Peace Prize of the German Book Trade 2025
|
Who will receive the Peace Prize this year? Citizens have until 1 March to submit their nominations. Organizers are looking for a "personality who has made an outstanding contribution to the realisation of the idea of peace, primarily through his or her work in the fields of literature, science or art".
