Issue 2 / 2024

Dear reader,

Book-to-Screen, audio, artificial intelligence - in this issue, we let some experts have their say: Film producers Uschi Feldges and Tobias Pausinger, for example, who took part in Books at Berlinale. Christian Ebert, who, as the new Head of Marketing & Sales at Frankfurter Buchmesse, is also responsible for brand management. Publishing Consultant Carlo Carrenho, who monitors the latest developments in the audio sector. And Bijan Moini, author, civil rights activist and political scientist, who was at the Book Fair in Taipei to discuss AI and freedom.

By the way, there will be a live talk on the topic of artificial intelligence today, Thursday, at 5.00 pm CET at The Hof, our digital networking format. It's called "Let's discuss AI", with Sara Lloyd (Pan Macmillan) and Holger Volland (brand eins Medien AG). You are welcome to register now, it's free!

For browsing, we recommend the new magazine "German Stories - News from Frankfurt", which is now available for download.

Enjoy reading!

Books at Berlinale: "It's about separation and falling in love again"

Every year at the Berlinale Co-Production Market, the Books at Berlinale event presents current books that have great potential to be made into films. Renowned publishers and literary agents pitch the material to the filmmakers in attendance that could be conceivable as a film or tv series. We spoke to producers Uschi Feldges and Tobias Pausinger about their experiences of the event, what role they play as producers in literary adaptations and what ideas they are taking away from the event.

German comics - travelling the world

This year, the Frankfurter Buchmesse team will be travelling to around ten book fairs worldwide with the German pavilions. Always in their luggage: the "book collections" - thematic compilations of new German publications that attract attention beyond national borders. The "Comics 2024" collection was curated by comic and manga expert Iban Carrere. In this interview, he provides insights into the current trends in these areas and reports on the background to his selection. And he tells us whether he has a favourite title.
